· Having a focus group and asking other students was extremely helpful when it came to researching before creating my magazine. This gave me the opportunity to ask fellow teenagers what they would be most interested in seeing in a magazine and what would mostly appeal to them.
Having a focus group helped me as they informed me of what their favourite genre was and who their favourite artists were. By asking them about this it helped me to decide who to include in my magazine based on my chosen genre. I also asked them about their current working status to get a vague idea about how much other students were willing to pay for a magazine.
This focus group made me realise that many students, like myself, do not have a job and depend on a set amount of money to spend on leisure things. I took this into consideration when choosing what free gifts/prizes to include as I wanted it to be worth the money people were paying for it.
My general findings from the focus group was that not many people considered my genre as their favourite and were much interested in other genres such as Pop. This did not deter me from my original genre idea though as there are already many famous Indie Rock artists which not many people realise are part of the genre.
My initial idea is still the same but I have just taken the price in to consideration a lot more. Although nobody in my group mentioned my chosen genre I do believe that my target audience would be very interested in what my magazine has to offer them as it is set as a reasonable price and includes artists/articles/free gifts which cater to their interests.
