Reader Profile Research:

Kerrang! has conducted this reader profile to help decide what to include when creating their magazine. By creating a reader profile they can see the percentage of females to males, ages of readers and class which will help them decide what to include in their magazine.
This reader profile shows that there are more male readers to female readers and this is incredibly helpful when they are choosing what to advertise in their magazine. They will most probably choose things which interest both genders but some will be more aimed towards males.
The ABC1 profile helps the editors when deciding what the price of their magazine. The percentage shows that nearly half of their readers are middle class. This helps them decide a price as it shows that the readers can’t afford an expensive magazine but can afford one that is in between (not to expensive but not cheap).
The age range shows the magazine the percentage of readers in each age group. These percentages are very helpful as they can include features and advertisements which will target a specific age group. They will most probably choose artists which are either close to the age of the largest percentage or an artist/band that will interest that targeted age group.

Kerrang! and all other magazines do extensive research such as this before creating their magazine as it gives them a clear idea of what their readers will be interested in. It helps the editors decide what to include based on what will appeal to their target audience. As Kerrang! is a music magazine they can use the age range and gender ratio to choose artists which are either close to their age or are the same gender. A reader profile helps editors decide what to include based on the results and what will most likely appeal to their target/main audience.
